The Three-Light Decision System
Most AI mistakes on set do not come from bad intent — they come from hesitation. A crew freezes because no one is sure what is allowed. This lesson replaces that hesitation with a single, shared reflex.
Every proposed AI use on a project gets sorted into one of three lights. Green means go — the use is clearly inside policy, provenance is known, and no one’s likeness or IP is at stake. Yellow means pause and review — the use is probably fine, but a named person has to sign off before it moves forward. Red means stop — the use is outside policy until leadership and legal say otherwise.
The power of the system is that it is fast enough to use in the moment. A gaffer, an editor, or a first-time PA can all apply the same three questions and land on the same answer. That consistency is what turns “AI safety” from an abstract worry into muscle memory.
By the end of this lesson you will have adapted the green / yellow / red rubric to your own studio, so the next time someone asks “can we use AI for this?” the answer takes seconds, not a meeting.
